Nigeria’s Super Eagles devour Squirrels of Benin Republic in Uyo
The Nigerian national football team, the Super Eagles, secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Benin in their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier match on Saturday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
Ademola Lookman scored two goals, while Victor Osimhen added a third, to give Nigeria a dominant win over their West African rivals.
The match saw Nigeria take control from the start, with Lookman’s solo run and strike just before halftime calming fans’ nerves.
Osimhen’s volley from a Wilfried Ndidi cross in the 79th minute increased Nigeria’s lead, before Lookman sealed the victory with a header from Moses Simon’s cross.
This win marks a significant turnaround for Nigeria, who had previously suffered a defeat to Benin in a World Cup qualification match in June.
The Super Eagles now top their group with three points, ahead of Rwanda and Libya, who have one point each.
Nigeria’s next match is against Rwanda on Tuesday, September 10, while Benin will face Libya on the same day.
