NLC accuses police of raiding National Secretariat

The Nigeria Police Force on Sunday, August 11, 2024, has denied claims that they raided the National Secretariat of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Abuja’s Central Business District.
ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, stated that a prime suspect was found in a shop.
This shop is located within a building in Abuja’s Central Business District, where an investigation is ongoing.
Detectives, with the necessary legal authority, conducted an operation at the location, which was the NLC building.
ACP Adejobi stated that the operation was meticulously planned and conducted to capture the prime suspect.
The prime suspect is a foreign national implicated in various criminal activities across Nigeria and other African countries.
ACP Adejobi debunks NLC’s allegations
The Force PRO stated that the NLC’s August 7, 2024, press statement claiming a police raid was false.
NLC’s Head of Media and Public Relations incorrectly alleged police officers and others raided the Labour House.
He insisted the operation was unrelated to the NLC, its Secretariat, staff, or leadership in any way.
He further explained that the NLC Secretariat wasn’t the target, but a rented shop within the building was.
The shop was used by the suspect as a front for his criminal activities in Nigeria.
ACP Adejobi said the Nigeria Police needs NLC’s cooperation and support to continue the investigation for national safety.
The suspect’s high-profile status presents a major security threat to Nigeria and other African nations.
This investigation is crucial for the safety of everyone involved, including the NLC.
ACP Adejobi stated the Nigeria Police Force remains dedicated to upholding the rule of law and professionalism.
He added that they’re also committed to respecting human rights in performing their statutory duties.
He urged Nigerians to stay vigilant and conduct security profiling of individuals wanting to rent within their premises.
