The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has apologized for his recent misconduct in court.

His apology was directed at Justice Binta Nyako and the prosecution team, particularly Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Adegboyega Awomolo.

Diaspora digital media (DDM) gathered that Kanu’s legal team, led by former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Kanu Agabi (SAN), delivered the apology.

During the last court session, Kanu had openly criticized the judge, the prosecution, and his own defense lawyers.

His outburst, seen as a reaction to frustration, raised concerns among legal observers and disrupted the court proceedings.

In the prepared statement, Agabi acknowledged that Kanu had reasons to be angry but should have controlled his emotions.

“In his moment of anger, he criticized the Federal High Court, Justice Binta Nyako, the prosecution, and even his lawyers,” Agabi stated.

“However, he now realizes his mistake and deeply regrets his actions,” he added.

Kanu pleaded passionately for forgiveness and promised to conduct himself appropriately throughout the remainder of the trial.

His legal team emphasized that he had no intention of undermining the court but acted out of frustration.

Agabi’s speech highlighted Kanu’s respect for the judiciary and his commitment to seeking justice through legal means.

“Justice Nyako did not deserve such an attack,” Agabi stated firmly.

“Likewise, Chief Awomolo, SAN, has always maintained professionalism and should not have been unfairly criticized,” he added.

The former Attorney General urged the court to look beyond Kanu’s emotional reaction and consider his plea for reconciliation.

“We must seek peace and forgiveness when resolving differences,” Agabi emphasized.

“Kanu is a good man, though not perfect, and remains committed to defending the rights of the Igbo people,” he added.

In response, Awomolo, SAN, acknowledged Kanu’s apology and stated that he had forgiven him.

He reassured the court that the prosecution was not driven by personal vendetta but was focused on justice.

“I am not a persecutor but a prosecutor,” Awomolo declared.

“My duty is to see that justice is served within the confines of the law,” he stated.

The trial continues, with expectations that proceedings will move forward smoothly following Kanu’s expression of remorse.
