Nnamdi Kanu’s trial to end May 8, 2025
DDM News

The prolonged trial of Nnamdi Kanu is finally heading toward a conclusive end.
Justice James Omotosho, who is presiding over the case at the Federal High Court in Abuja, has declared that judgment will be delivered no later than May 8, 2025.
In a dramatic court session, the judge stated he was no longer willing to entertain further delays in the matter.
He emphasized that the case has dragged on for a full decade and must be concluded without fail.
“This matter must come to a conclusion by the 8th of May 2025,” the judge said, addressing both the defense and prosecution.
“It has lingered for 10 years, and I’m not going to stew to it more,” he added.
He also made emotional remarks about moral responsibility and accountability.
“We are going to give account of our actions here on Earth when we die,” he said.
“I want to give a good account,” he concluded.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that this announcement has triggered widespread anticipation and emotional reactions across pro-Biafra groups and Nigerian civil rights communities.
Many believe the judge’s statements strongly indicate that Nnamdi Kanu may be released next week.
The trial has been adjourned to May 6th, 7th, and 8th for what is expected to be the final stage of the case.
Supporters of the IPOB leader have already begun organizing peaceful rallies and vigils in various cities.
They say the time for justice is long overdue.
Nnamdi Kanu was first arrested in 2015 on charges related to treasonable felony, unlawful possession of arms, and inciting public unrest.
His arrest sparked protests across Nigeria and among Igbo communities in the diaspora.
Kanu, a British-Nigerian citizen, had been advocating for the independence of Biafra, a region that attempted secession in 1967, leading to a bloody civil war.
The Nigerian government declared IPOB a terrorist organization in 2017, a move criticized by many international observers.
Kanu fled Nigeria in 2017 while on bail but was later re-arrested in 2021 under controversial circumstances involving international rendition.
Since then, he has remained in custody, with court appearances often delayed or disrupted.
Human rights organizations and legal experts have condemned the slow pace of the trial.
They argue that Kanu’s rights to a fair and speedy trial have been consistently violated.
Justice Omotosho’s recent comments may mark a turning point in the long-running legal saga.
Analysts believe the final judgment could significantly impact political discourse in Nigeria, particularly in the southeast.
Some politicians have also urged the federal government to consider a political solution to the matter.
They argue that continuing the trial serves only to deepen regional tensions.
Security is expected to be tight around the court premises as the final dates approach.
Observers say the Nigerian judiciary is now under the spotlight, both locally and internationally.
Kanu’s legal team has expressed cautious optimism about the judge’s recent stance.
They maintain that their client is innocent and has been unfairly persecuted for his political beliefs.
The coming week may finally bring closure to one of Nigeria’s most controversial and politically charged court cases in recent history.
More updates will follow as the court reconvenes on May 6, 2025.
