Two different bodies of the Nigeria Army have been found contradicting themselves over the recent invasion of the press center of the Nigerian Union of Journalists [NUJ] Zone C, Umuahia, Abia State.

Reacting to scathing criticisms from several quarters, Assistant Director Public Relations of 14 Army Brigade, Major Oyegoke Badamosi has issued a statement.

He had explained that there was no fracas between NUJ Abia State and soldiers on patrol in Umuahia.

He tried to explain his way out, saying that what happened was a little skirmish between some army personnels and some journalists.

Not satisfied with the verdict, however, members of the NUJ Zone C branch took the complaint to the army outfit in Umuahia.

They brought out evidences of human and material damages unleashed on them when their members filmed some soldiers on duty during Operation Python Dance II.

They also explained that the soldiers on patrol near the Abia State NUJ Secretariat noticed some people filming them.

Without thinking, they seized and damaged their recording devices; an iPad and 2 mobile phones.

They further proved that the items belong to journalists on their legitimate duties.

In turn, the Commander 14 Brigade and Deputy Director Army Public Relations 82 Division accepted the misdeeds of the personnels involved in the skirmish.

He not only resolved the matter amicably but agreed to compensate for any damage accrued during the incident both humanly and materially.

Additionally, he pledged that the soldiers involved will face disciplinary action.

Reacting to the double tongue by the army, an Elombah.com correspondent, while speaking in anonymity, asked:

“How can Assistant Director Public Relations of 14 Army Brigade, Major Badamosi deny the invasion and the ensuing destruction in one instance, only for the Commander in another instance say that they will compensate for any damage accrued and that the soldiers involved will face disciplinary action?”

In other related events emanating from the South-East, operatives of Operation Python Dance II invaded and laid siege to the home Mr Nnamdi Kanu.

Mr Kanu is the leader of the pro-Biafra agitators, the Indigenous People of Biafra [IPOB].

They were also involved in some fracas that saw the destruction of lives and properties in Aba, the commercial nerve center of Abia State, as well as the state capital, Umuahia.

Pockets of violence were also reported in Oyigbo in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
