Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi

Peter Obi has criticized Nigeria’s leaders for prioritizing trivial issues while poverty and insecurity continue to worsen across the country.

Peter Obi is a Nigerian businessman and politician who served as the Governor of Anambra State from 2006 to 2014.

He was the vice-presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 general election and later contested the 2023 presidential election under the Labour Party.

Obi is known for his advocacy for good governance, economic reforms, and prudent financial management.

He made this known in a post on his X account, condemning the failure of leadership in addressing urgent national issues.

According to Diaspora digital media (DDM), Obi expressed disappointment over the increasing distractions within the government while Nigerians struggle with severe economic and social challenges.

He noted that Nigeria currently experiences one of the highest levels of actual and multidimensional poverty in the world.

According to Obi, the country also faces a soaring infant mortality rate and an alarming number of out-of-school children.

Millions of Nigerians are battling hunger, while insecurity continues to threaten the survival of citizens across different regions.

These pressing issues, he emphasized, demand urgent and transformative solutions, not the current obsession with political controversies.

He lamented that rather than focusing on governance, political discussions are dominated by irrelevant distractions.

He pointed to allegations of sexual misconduct, budget padding, and conflicts in State Houses of Assembly as unnecessary diversions.

Obi also condemned reckless court rulings, which he said could destabilize governance and weaken democratic institutions.

The former Anambra governor expressed concern over the embarrassing scandals emerging from the National Assembly.

He described the actions of the Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary as uninspiring and harmful to national stability.

Obi accused the Executive of abusing power, citing recent political interference in Osun State as an example.

He criticized the Judiciary for issuing controversial rulings in Rivers State, warning that such decisions could threaten democracy.

The crisis within the National Assembly, he added, further demonstrates the failure of leadership in the country.

Obi called on the three arms of government to stop interfering in sub-national governance and focus on their core responsibilities.

He warned that the ongoing disruptions in various states could encourage electoral malpractice and deepen public distrust in government.

Urgent steps, he insisted, must be taken to stabilize the country’s political system and ensure electoral integrity.

He described the reckless neglect of governance as a grave disservice to millions of Nigerians suffering under harsh economic conditions.

Obi expressed concern over the blatant display of political recklessness and widespread irregularities within the leadership.

He argued that these actions reflect a leadership that has abandoned its duty to serve the people.

While ordinary Nigerians struggle with inflation, unemployment, and inadequate healthcare, politicians focus on personal interests.

Obi called this a betrayal of public trust and proof that leaders are disconnected from the people’s realities.

He warned that Nigeria cannot afford to be governed like a reality television show filled with distractions and political drama.

Leadership, he insisted, must be based on character, competence, capacity, consistency, compassion, and urgency.

He urged political leaders to shift their focus to education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation rather than irrelevant controversies.

Anything less, he warned, would undermine national stability and jeopardize the country’s future.

Obi reaffirmed that leadership is about service, not personal enrichment or political theatrics.

He reminded leaders that their primary duty is to develop policies that uplift the poor and ensure national security.

He called for a reset in Nigeria’s governance, urging politicians to embrace responsible and people-focused leadership.

Obi reiterated that Nigerians deserve a government that prioritizes their welfare over selfish political battles.

He emphasized that the country’s current challenges require urgent action, not unnecessary distractions from those in power.

He urged citizens to remain vigilant and demand accountability from those entrusted with governance.

Obi concluded by stating that a new Nigeria is possible but only with the right leadership and priorities.
