Anambra State Governor Willie Obiano has commissioned the Ihiala Regional Water Scheme in Ihiala Local Government Area, Anambra State.

It was constructed with a promise to intensify efforts towards the realization of a 40 kilometre reticulation coverage target.

The Project presently reticulated 20km.

It was executed by the state government with support from the Federal Government under the 2013/2014 Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Conditional Grants Scheme Programme.

The regional Water project comprises 3 industrial boreholes, with water treatment facility, a 100 KVA generating set and reservoir tanks of 475,000 litres.

The tanks are capable of adequately serving 1,100 households daily.

According to the governor, the entire council area would have access to water when the remaining 20 kilometres of reticulation is completed.

Obiano announced that the State Government was currently working hard to improve the services of the Power Distribution Substation serving the area.

He made the announcement while commenting on the poor state of power supply in the area.

He said, “Re-installation of power cables will commence immediately in the area.

“Our major challenge is the vandalisation of government projects.”

He therefore urged all the benefiting communities to take full ownership of any development project sited in their area.

The state’s Commissioner for Trade, Commerce, Markets and Wealth Creation, Bar. Uzoamaka Ilobi thanked the governor for all the life-enhancing projects within Ihiala Council area.

She assured him: “We will reciprocate the gesture by always supporting your administration”.

Mr Pascal Agbodike, in his remarks said the clean water will help the people stay safe from water-borne diseases and the attendant financial implications.
