(DDM) – Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has officially delivered 30 one-bedroom flats to soldiers of the 181 Amphibious Battalion in Agbor, addressing longstanding accommodation challenges for military personnel.
The handover ceremony, held within the barracks, saw Governor Oborevwori represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Emu emphasised that the housing project reflects the state government’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of soldiers and the strengthening of Delta’s overall security architecture.
According to Dr. Emu, the initiative is part of Governor Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda, specifically aligning with the Meaningful Development and Enhanced Peace pillars, which seek to promote the well-being of citizens while supporting key security agencies.
He noted that the project is a demonstration of how government can directly impact the morale and living conditions of the men and women safeguarding the state.
The governor’s gesture drew praise from military leaders, with Commanding Officer of the 181 Amphibious Battalion highlighting the positive impact the housing units would have on soldiers’ daily lives.
They described the initiative as a significant morale booster, promising that improved living conditions would translate into enhanced operational efficiency and commitment to duty.
DDM gathered that General Lucky Irabor, Chief of Defence Staff, was lauded for facilitating the project and fostering collaboration between the Delta State government and the military hierarchy.
Officials also acknowledged President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its emphasis on national security and support for initiatives that enhance the welfare of security personnel.
Local community leaders and stakeholders in Agbor praised the project as a model for sustainable government intervention.
They pointed out that secure and comfortable housing not only improves the quality of life for soldiers but also strengthens civil-military relations and promotes stability within host communities.
The 30 housing units, designed as modern one-bedroom flats, were completed with attention to quality, functionality, and long-term durability.
Beneficiary soldiers expressed gratitude for the initiative, noting that it would relieve the pressure of off-base accommodation challenges and allow them to focus fully on their security responsibilities.
Governor Oborevwori’s office reiterated its commitment to continuing support for the military and other security agencies in the state, promising future collaborations aimed at enhancing both operational readiness and personnel welfare.
The project is expected to serve as a benchmark for other states seeking to prioritise the living standards of their security forces.
The event concluded with a ceremonial handover, photographs, and a renewed pledge from all parties to work together in ensuring Delta State remains secure and peaceful while fostering meaningful development for its residents.
