(DDM) – Political alignments in Delta State are already shaping the 2027 governorship race, with leading voices in the All Progressives Congress (APC) affirming that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has consolidated his hold on the party.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the declaration came from former APC State Secretary, Otunba Nick Ovuakporie, who publicly dismissed speculations suggesting that former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, was plotting a political comeback.
Speaking during a media parley in Asaba, Ovuakporie emphasized that Oborevwori enjoys overwhelming grassroots support across the three senatorial districts of Delta State. He described the governor as the “undisputed leader” of the APC structure in the state, stressing that attempts to undermine his dominance would be fruitless.
According to Ovuakporie, Oborevwori’s record of developmental projects and people-oriented policies has endeared him to the electorate. He insisted that such achievements will not only guarantee his continued relevance but will also strengthen his re-election prospects as the 2027 polls approach.
The APC stalwart further revealed that his own contributions in shaping the political landscape of Delta State were instrumental to Ovie Omo-Agege’s past rise in influence. However, he warned that recycling old strategies would not succeed against Oborevwori’s current popularity.
“Governor Oborevwori has changed the political equation in Delta,” Ovuakporie stated. “He has given the party a new sense of direction and stability. What we need now is unity, not unnecessary distractions.”
Observers note that the debate surrounding the leadership of Delta APC comes at a sensitive time, as opposition parties are also recalibrating their strategies ahead of the next general elections.
Analysts argue that while Omo-Agege remains an influential figure in Delta politics, Oborevwori’s incumbency advantage and grassroots networks give him a formidable edge.
Party elders have urged members to avoid internal wrangling that could weaken the APC’s chances, reminding stakeholders of past divisions that cost the party electoral victories.
Meanwhile, political watchers believe that Oborevwori’s growing reputation as a consensus builder could position him not only as a state leader but also as a stronger voice within the South-South region of the APC.
As the countdown to 2027 gathers momentum, insiders say the battle for dominance within Delta APC is far from over, but for now, Sheriff Oborevwori has been declared the man to beat.
