Diaspora Group Joins Owerri, Okigwe, and Orlu Leaders in Renewed Push for Equity and Continuity.

In a powerful statement that echoes growing sentiment within Imo State and its diaspora, Ogbako Imo Europe, the umbrella organization of Imo indigenes across the European continent, has officially endorsed the return of Dr. Ikedi Ohakim as Governor of Imo State in 2027.

In a communiqué issued at the conclusion of its annual general conference held in Brussels, the group described Ohakim as “the most prepared, detribalized, and development-oriented former governor” and declared that “equity demands he is allowed to complete his constitutionally-guaranteed second term which was truncated in 2011.”

The group, made up of delegates from Imo citizens residing in Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Belgium, France, and Scandinavia, called on political stakeholders across the three zones—Orlu, Owerri, and Okigwe—to close ranks in support of the Okigwe-born technocrat and statesman.

“At a time when Imo desperately needs stability, institutional reform, and restoration of dignity in leadership, we find no better candidate than Dr. Ohakim.

He governed with clarity of vision, respect for rule of law, and environmental sanity.

The ‘Clean and Green’ legacy is not just a slogan—it was a lived reality,” the communiqué stated.

Ikedi Ohakim is a Nigerian politician and businessman who served as the Governor of Imo State from 2007 to 2011.

Born on August 4, 1957, in Okohia, Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State, Ohakim has been a prominent figure in Nigerian politics.

Ohakim earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and a Master’s degree in Management from the University of Lagos.

He worked in senior commercial and executive management roles within multinational engineering and manufacturing companies in Nigeria.

Ohakim’s political journey began with his appointment as Commissioner for Commerce, Industry, and Tourism in Imo State from 1992 to 1993 under Governor Evan Enwerem.

He later became a founding member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State but switched to the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) in November 2006.

Ohakim ran for governor on the PPA platform in April 2007 and won, serving from May 29, 2007, to May 2011.

As governor, Ohakim initiated various developmental projects, including Infrastructure Development.

Construction of critical road corridors, modern market complexes, and healthcare improvements

Creation of over 30,000 jobs through the Imo Road Maintenance Agency (IROMA) and employment of 10,000 graduates in 2008.

Investment in school renovations, healthcare improvements, and support for teachers and healthcare workers

Ohakim is currently preparing for a potential comeback in the 2027 Imo State gubernatorial election.

His campaign is built around the theme of “unfinished business,” with a focus on completing his previous projects and building on the progress made in the state.

Some Imolites believe that revisiting an experienced hand like Ohakim offers a safer path to stability, continuity, and progress
