Ogun SDP rejects political opportunists, welcomes genuine members
By Kingsley Ikechukwu

The Social Democratic party (SDP) in Ogun State is witnessing an influx of new political entrants seeking membership.
Diaspora digital media (DDM) gathered that Hon. Dr. Lawrence Kingsley I. Oluwakayode has expressed strong support for fresh members and influential figures joining the party.
He is the party’s 2024 councillorship candidate for Sango Ward in Ado-Odo Ota Local Government Area.
He also serves as the Youth Leader of the local government’s SDP chapter.
Oluwakayode, however, strongly condemns any attempts to undermine the party’s structure through inducements, sabotage, or internal subversion.
He assured both old and new members that everyone would be integrated into the party’s framework.
He emphasized that there are enough leadership positions to accommodate all members fairly.
His remarks come amidst rumors of Mr. Jimi Lawal’s attempt to join the SDP through underground means.
Lawal is a seasoned politician known for frequently switching parties in pursuit of his gubernatorial ambitions.
Oluwakayode stated that although he has never met Lawal personally, he is well aware of his political maneuvers.
Lawal initially belonged to the All Progressives Congress (APC) but defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He left the APC after failing to secure the party’s governorship ticket during the primary elections.
Lawal also contested the PDP primaries but lost to Ladi Adebutu, popularly known as LADO.
Instead of accepting defeat, he allegedly attempted to take over the PDP’s structure from Adebutu.
His effort to wrest control of the party, however, failed.
Oluwakayode described Lawal as a respected and resilient political figure with strong influence.
He acknowledged Lawal’s enthusiasm, political acumen, and strategy, stating that he admires his determination.
However, he criticized Lawal’s pattern of moving from one party to another for personal political gains.
Oluwakayode urged Lawal to take a more inclusive and transparent approach if he wishes to integrate into the SDP.
He emphasized that entering the party through the proper channels would strengthen Lawal’s credibility and recognition.
He encouraged Lawal to contribute to the SDP’s growth instead of attempting to manipulate its structure.
The SDP is working to build a party that benefits Ogun residents and Nigerians at large.
Oluwakayode called on the party’s leadership to remain vigilant against any destabilizing influences.
He urged the state, local government, ward, and unit executives to stand firm in protecting the party’s integrity.
He emphasized the need for party members to remain steadfast and committed to their shared vision.
The SDP leadership is determined to maintain stability while welcoming new members under fair conditions.
Oluwakayode reassured party members that no one would be sidelined as the party progresses.
The party remains open to genuine members who are willing to work towards collective progress.
As Ogun State’s political landscape evolves, the SDP is committed to maintaining its structure and democratic values.
