Ohanaeze Demands Reason For DG PENCOM – Chinelo Anohu’s Sack
*Demand Replacement From South East
Ohanaeze Ndigbo is shocked by the unlawful manner of the removal of the DG of PECOM, Mrs Chinelo Anohu. The President General of the Apex Igbo body stated this in a recent press conference at Enugu.
The federal government did not tell Nigerians why they removed her when her constitutional tenure is not yet over. If she committed any offense that led to that unlawful sack, the world is yet to know.
Section 21 (2 ) of the Pensions act demands a replacement for the zone of a DG that is unable to complete her tenure for one reason or another. This has not be done.
Mrs Anohu reportedly raised the Pension funds from 2 trillion Naira to 6 trillion Naira only for her to be booted out and replaced with a person form the North East contrary to the Pension Act.
WE call for the immediate reversal of the action or her replacement with a South Easterner as the law that set up the Agency clearly spelt out. Failure to do so may attract litigation and resort to all legitimate means to seek redress by Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
All Nigerians of goodwill , Civil Society organizations, legal practitioners and concerned Nigerians should also impinge it on the federal government to reverse its position on this issue.
This reminds us of the same manner the former National Chairman of the PDP in the past Dr Okwesilieze Nwodo was removed in those days when he had not completed his tenure and the failure of the authorities then to even replace him with a South Easterner as the law of the party stated that time. This treatment meted to South Easterners and Igbos occupying federal positions will no longer be condoned.
We see these acts of brazen assaults on the South East as provocative , unacceptable and premedited. Yet the federal government would want our Youths not to be restive in the face of these provocations and assault on their people. You beat a baby and you dont want it to cry.. .
We also associate ourselves with the recent legal suit by a foremost legal practitioners and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Olisa Agbakoba against the federal government for the marginalization of Igbos in Nigeria.
Finally we call on Igbo political actors fond of defecting to other political parties to do so not because of what they will personally benefit , but on the basis of principles and what Ndigbo stand to benefit from such defections.
Defections should not be for defection sake, else such persons will be seen as political prostitutes which is not for the best interest of Ndigbo.
Ndigbo are free to belong to any political party in Nigeria but they must tell Ndigbo how their belonging to those parties will advance the economic, social and political interest of Ndigbo.
