Ohanaeze Suspends Uche Okwukwu As Secretary General
Barrister Uche Okwukwu has been suspended as the Secretary General and membership of all organs of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
Barr. Okwukwu’s suspension was announced on Thursday, 31st January, in a press release issued by National Publicity Secretary for the National Executive Committee (NEC), Prince Barr Uche Achi-Okpaga.
Ohanaeze recounted that Okwukwu has been making false representations of decisions of meetings of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the Imeobi Ohanaeze.
The statement reads:
“In the last three days the Secretary General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Barr Uche Okwukwu, has at various fora engaged in false representations of decisions of meetings of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the Imeobi Ohanaeze.
“He has arrogated to himself the powers of the organs of Ohanaeze by uttering positions taken by these organs.
“These deliberate actions of the Secretary General were discussed at today’s (31st January, 2019) Emergency Meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC).
“These actions having taken place in the public domain and reported copiously in the mass media, the NEC in an overwhelming majority decision, after confronting Barr Okwukwu, has resolved as follows:
- That Barr Uche Okwukwu is from this day, Thursday, 31st January, 2019, suspended from his office as the Secretary General and membership of all organs of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
- That having personally attended the Emergency Meeting and denied some of the allegations against him is hereby given a seven-day ultimatum to publicly retract and publish same in the mass media, failure which the matter will be referred to the Disciplinary Committee for further inquiries and appropriate action and subsequent referral to the Imeobi for final decision.
- In the prevailing circumstance, every member of Ohanaeze, Branches and Affiliate Bodies are advised, in the meantime, to take note and desist from dealing with Barr Uche Okwukwu as the Secretary General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
