A younger brother of the late Hon. Igwe Akuma of Okon Aku community in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State, Mr. Igwe Uma Akwu, has commended Governor Alex Otti for his swift intervention in the crisis that rocked the community, while demanding justice over the killing of his elder brother.

Speaking during a newspaper review programme on Vision Africa Radio 104.1 FM Umuahia on Wednesday, Igwe Uma Akwu described the death of his brother as heartbreaking and painful.
He praised the Abia State Government for constituting a seven member administrative panel of inquiry to investigate the Okon Aku crisis, which reportedly claimed the life of Hon. Akuma and led to the destruction of properties in the community.
According to him, the government also demonstrated commitment to justice by receiving the report submitted by the panel, a move he said has restored hope among members of the affected community.
While expressing appreciation to Governor Otti for the intervention, the grieving younger brother called on the authorities to ensure that those responsible for the killing are brought to justice.
“My brother was everything to us. He was taking care of our parents. His killing is painful and unbearable,” he said emotionally during the programme.
He described the circumstances surrounding the incident as cruel and unacceptable, stressing that no society should condone the silencing of people who stand for truth and fairness.
Igwe Uma Akwu maintained that justice must not be delayed, insisting that accountability would not only honour the memory of the deceased but also help prevent future violence in the community.
The Okon Aku crisis had generated tension within the area following reports of violence and destruction of properties, prompting the state government to intervene through the setting up of the investigative panel.
