Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) on Tuesday revealed that the Executive Governor of Imo state, Rochas Okorocha is building bridges across the state without a design .
The President of the association, Engr. Kashim Abdul Ali who made this known when he visited the Senate leadership said the building of bridges in the state is a disaster waiting to happen.
Kashim said, “Tragedy is about to happen in Imo state bridges are being built without design, it is a disaster waiting to happen.
“We cannot stop the construction because the Act establishing the COREN does not permit us to stop the construction .”
He however called the Senate to support the amendment of the COREN Act so that the body will be able to stop it.
According to him, we are seeking Senate support to facilitate the amendment of the Act so that the body will be able to stop such issue.
In his remarks, the former Senate President, David Mark who represented the leadership wondered how could someone build a bridge without a design.
Mark said, ” somebody is building bridges without a design. This is very unfortunate a wish COREN has the authority to stop. “
