One-Chance Syndicate Kills Benue Lady, Dumps Body in Abuja
DDM News

Tragedy struck in Nigeria’s capital city, Abuja, as a young woman from Benue State was gruesomely murdered by suspected “one-chance” criminals.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the deceased, identified as a native of Ekaida in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State, had been returning home from work when she fell into the trap of the notorious criminal gang.
Her lifeless body was discovered along Abubakar Street, off Alex Ekwueme Way in the Jabi district of Abuja, early Monday morning.
The disturbing discovery has sparked outrage and renewed concerns over the increasing spate of “one-chance” attacks, criminal activities perpetrated by gangs who pose as commercial vehicle operators to abduct, rob, and in some cases, kill unsuspecting commuters.
According to Adanu Andrew, a community member who identified the victim, the young woman had boarded a vehicle presumed to be a regular public transport while on her way home after work.
“She was our daughter from Ekaida, Agatu local government,” Andrew explained.
“She was returning from work and unfortunately entered a ‘one-chance’ vehicle yesterday.”
He further revealed that the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of one million naira, and her family members were in the process of raising the amount when they stumbled upon social media posts reporting her death.
“This girl was disciplined and hardworking.
She was struggling like any other young person trying to survive in a tough economy,” Andrew lamented.
“Her death is painful and unjust. May God grant her eternal rest and console the family.”
“One-chance” robbery incidents have become a recurring nightmare in Abuja and other urban centers across Nigeria.
Victims are typically abducted inside vehicles operated by fake transporters, who then rob or extort them under duress. In extreme cases, these encounters end fatally.
The Nigeria Police Force has repeatedly warned commuters to be cautious and avoid boarding unregistered or suspicious vehicles.
However, many Nigerians continue to fall victim due to the country’s insufficient public transportation infrastructure and rising insecurity.
As of the time of this report, the police are yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
Meanwhile, human rights advocates have called for an urgent and coordinated crackdown on “one-chance” syndicates operating within the Federal Capital Territory and beyond.
The tragic death of the Benue-born lady adds to the growing list of young Nigerians lost to unchecked criminality, stirring fresh calls for justice and meaningful action by authorities.
