Onuimo  LGA Chair, Obi, leads in human capacity building, security, employs 100 youths

The Executive chairman of Onuimo Local Government Area in Imo state, Hon. Dr Emeka Obi has taken the lead in human capacity building, security and infrastructure.

He employed and empowered one hundred (100) youths to work as Vigilante group in their various communities.

This his effort DDM News gathered has gone a long way in controlling insecurity and bringing it to a barest minimum.

 

Hon Obi stated this while addressing newsmen recently during a statewide stakeholders meeting in Owerri, Imo state capital.

The capacity and workaholic chairman stated that prior to his assumption of office, Onuimo LGA was worse in insecurity more than the celebrated LGAs but his emergence as the democratically elected Local Government Chairman has stopped it.

” We have done well in security. Sincerely we have recorded much success in the area of security management”, he noted.

“I have 100 boys I recruited into the Vigilante and they are now in the Local Government payroll.

” When we came onboard , it was difficult to curb insecurity. Onuimo was worse in insecurity than Okigwe but it was not in the news.

” But when I came, I engaged the youths. They were blaming the political class that they are responsible for the sufferings in the land.

” So, they are angry with the politicians and that they eat alone. That they are angry with the big men, they came home erect buildings without carrying the youths along.

” So let them come home and live in the house, let them see.

” Then I told them that I came to bridge the gap. I’m an associate professor and my behavior would be different “, Dr Obi stated.

He said, now that he represents them in government that he would want them to work together.

According to him, the youths agreed and asked him in which area and he said security.

Obi told them that he wants peace. ” I don’t want kidnapping, quarrels, arson, assassin, destruction of lives and properties etcetera.”

He said the youths agreed to assist so he engaged over one hundred of them in his administration and peace was restored.

 

Dr Emeka Obi also stated that he has graded all the nooks and crannies of Onuimo Local Government.

Adding that he is fencing Onuimo Local Government Council headquarters to prevent intruders and encroachment into the land.

“We have finished building the council hall which was abandoned four years ago.

“When I finish the perimeter fencing, I will install the solar street lights in and outside the local government”, he stated.

Hon Obi also noted that he has been able to manage relationships, stressing that he is in good times with his leaders, the traditional rulers, PGs, Youths and the media.

Obi who was the Sole administrator and now democratically elected Local Government Chairman has hailed the Governor, Senator Dr Hope Uzodinma for giving him the opportunity to serve his people.

He also thanked Onuimo people for allowing him to serve them and promised not to fail them.

He urged them to support the government of Governor Hope Uzodinma so that he will continue to bring the dividends of democracy to them
