Police authorities in Osun State have invited Senator Francis Fadahunsi for questioning over alleged statement in which he was said to have directed supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to kill members of the rival Accord Party during the ongoing governorship campaign.
Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District, was invited following a video circulating on social media from an APC campaign rally held in Ilesa on Tuesday.
In the footage, the senator was heard speaking in Yoruba, with his comments sparking controversy and allegations that he encouraged violence against members of the Accord Party.
A letter dated August 11, 2026, and signed by the Commissioner of Police, Elections, Osun State, Samuel Etaifo Erale, asked the senator to appear before the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Osogbo.
Diaspora Digital Media understand that Fadahunsi was directed to report to the SCID by 11am on Wednesday, August 12, to explain the circumstances surrounding the alleged statement.
The police said the invitation followed information at their disposal indicating that the senator made comments considered “threatening, inciting and intimidating” during the APC campaign.
The command also noted that the alleged remarks had been widely circulated across electronic and social media platforms.
Meanwhile, Fadahunsi’s team has dismissed claims that the senator called for violence, insisting that his words were taken out of context.
In a statement titled “Kill Osun Accord with Votes, Not Violence,” the team said the senator’s comment was political and metaphorical, rather than a literal call for supporters to attack members of the opposition party.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Senator’s statement was purely political and metaphorical,” the statement said.
It explained that Fadahunsi was urging APC supporters to defeat and reject the Accord Party through the ballot box in a peaceful and lawful manner.
The development comes just days before the August 15 governorship election, with political tension and campaign activities intensifying across Osun State.
Incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking re-election on the platform of the Accord Party, has repeatedly accused the APC of sponsoring attacks against his supporters, an allegation the opposition party has denied.
