Abia State Governor Alex Otti has approved ₦31 million in immediate financial support for 31 verified indigenes of the state who recently returned from South Africa following xenophobic attacks.
Each returnee will receive ₦1 million as interim assistance to help them recover and reintegrate into their communities.
The state government said the gesture was aimed at reassuring the returnees that they had not been abandoned and providing immediate relief while a comprehensive assessment of their individual circumstances is carried out.
According to the government, the profiling exercise will help it develop sustainable reintegration and social protection measures tailored to the needs of the returnees.
The government described the intervention as part of Otti’s commitment to protecting vulnerable residents and creating opportunities for them to rebuild their lives.
Meanwhile, Otti has also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to policies focused on the welfare and security of Abia residents, as well as creating a favourable environment for investment and economic growth.
