Over 20 soldiers killed as JNIM terrorists overrun army base

JNIM militants have overrun a Malian army base in Soumpi, Tombouctou region, killing over 20 soldiers, including the base commander and his deputy.

Counter-insurgency expert Zagozola Makama, while citing security sources, report that the assault claimed the lives of more than 20 soldiers, including the base commander and his deputy.

The attackers, who arrived on motorcycles and pickup trucks, engaged troops in fierce combat for hours before seizing military vehicles, weapons, and ammunition.

While the Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) have not yet issued an official statement, local accounts described the incident as one of the most devastating attacks on government forces in recent months

Reinforcements have been sent to secure the area and evacuate casualties.

JNIM, aligned with al-Qaeda, has intensified its insurgency across northern and central Mali, targeting army installations and civilian areas.
