Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi has mourned the death of Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo, describing it as a painful loss to Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
In a statement shared on X on Friday, Obi said he received news of the actor’s death with deep sadness, noting that Ekubo’s passing had thrown Nollywood and his fans across the country into mourning.
“I received with sadness the heartbreaking news of the passing of young and talented Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo, whose death has left the Nigerian entertainment industry and millions of admirers across the country mourning,” he wrote.
Obi also extended condolences to the actor’s family, friends, and colleagues, saying he stood in solidarity with everyone grieving the loss.
Reflecting on the tragedy, the former Anambra State governor said moments like this serve as a reminder of how fragile life can be and the need for people to live with compassion, kindness, and purpose.
He prayed for strength and comfort for Ekubo’s family as they cope with the loss and asked God to grant the late actor eternal rest.
Ekubo died at the age of 40 after battling advanced metastatic kidney cancer.
His family confirmed that he passed away on May 11, 2026, at Evercare Hospital in Lagos.
