Wike Declares Makinde’s Presidential Ambition ‘Dead on Arrival’

Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike has dismissed claims of an alliance between the Peoples Democratic Party and the Allied Peoples Movement ahead of the 2027 elections, insisting no such arrangement exists.

Wike spoke on Thursday after inspecting the ongoing 13-kilometre Gomani–Yangoje road project in Kwali Area Council, Abuja, where he described reports of a PDP-APM coalition as political fiction.

His reaction followed the announcement by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, that he would contest the 2027 presidential election under the APM platform.

Makinde made the declaration during a joint rally involving members of the PDP and APM in Ibadan.

But Wike said neither the PDP nor the Independent National Electoral Commission had any knowledge of such an alliance.

“There’s no alliance between PDP and APM or any other political party. INEC also knows there is nothing like a PDP-APM alliance,” he said.

According to him, the PDP’s ongoing internal activities, including the screening of aspirants, show the party is operating independently and has not entered into any coalition talks.

“PDP has presented a presidential candidate. Wait and see the name that will be submitted to INEC,” he added.

Wike further alleged that the Ibadan gathering was organised mainly to advance Makinde’s personal presidential ambition through the APM platform.

“What you have is Makinde joining APM to actualise his presidential ambition, which is already dead on arrival,” the minister stated.
