Peter Obi backs slain judge’s widow to honour his legacy

(DDM) – Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party leader, Peter Obi, has pledged full support for Mrs. Justina Azuka in her bid to represent Onitsha North Constituency 1 in the Anambra State House of Assembly.

Mrs. Azuka’s candidacy follows the brutal killing of her husband, Hon. Justice Azuka, by suspected kidnappers.

Obi revealed in a statement on X that Mrs. Azuka, a young mother of three, is stepping forward to serve the remaining 13 months of her late husband’s term.

Her children are aged seven, five, and three, and she has chosen to honour her husband’s memory through public service despite the grief.

Obi stressed that leadership without compassion is meaningless, saying it must combine competence with humanity.

He described Mrs. Azuka as a graduate of Public Administration (HND) who is qualified, competent, and resilient.

According to Obi, her decision to run is not only an act of courage but also a chance for the people to show solidarity in times of loss.

He urged citizens at home and abroad to rally behind her candidacy, noting that this would be both an investment in capable leadership and a compassionate response to tragedy.

Obi added that supporting Mrs. Azuka on Saturday, August 16, 2025, would send a message about the values of the “new Nigeria”, one built on empathy, justice, and competent governance.

He reaffirmed his belief that Nigeria must stand for its citizens in times of hardship and ensure that compassion is a pillar of leadership.

Mrs. Azuka’s campaign is already drawing attention in political circles, with observers noting the potential symbolic significance of her election.

Her victory would not only secure continuity in representation but also stand as a statement against violence and injustice.
