Former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has dismissed fresh rumours linking him to a return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 elections.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that Obi’s response came through a formal statement issued on Tuesday by his media aide, Ibrahim Umar, under the Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR).

The former Anambra State Governor described the claims as false and disassociated himself from a viral statement that allegedly declared loyalty to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) while distancing him from PDP.

According to the POMR, “The Peter Obi Media Reach has been made aware of a fake statement claiming that Peter Obi denied rejoining the PDP and declared allegiance to ADC.”

The media team clarified that Obi has not made any official statement about party alignment and remains committed to the vision of building a new Nigeria.

They warned against attributing false claims to the LP flagbearer, describing such moves as an attempt to manipulate public perception for selfish political reasons.

The statement emphasized that, “Peter Obi has been clear about his position in ongoing coalition talks and does not need anyone to speak on his behalf.”

“Only statements issued through his verified social media accounts or from this media office should be considered legitimate,” it added.

This clarification follows remarks made by former Borno State Governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, who recently suggested that Obi was set to return to the PDP.

In a television interview on Channels TV, Sheriff had stated, “The information available to me is that any moment from now, Peter Obi will go back to PDP and run as a presidential candidate under PDP.”

Sheriff also dismissed the relevance of Obi’s current political platform, saying, “As far as this politics is concerned, ADC doesn’t exist.”

The public reaction to Sheriff’s statement stirred speculation about potential realignments ahead of the 2027 polls.

Peter Obi’s team, however, reiterated that any updates regarding political movements or declarations will be made publicly and transparently through official sources.

This is not the first time the former vice-presidential candidate has had to confront rumours about shifting party allegiances.

Obi, who has remained vocal about issues of governance, transparency, and leadership reforms, continues to position himself as a prominent figure in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.

Political watchers believe his next steps will significantly shape the build-up to the 2027 general elections.
