Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, has joined other Nigerians across the globe to mourn the death of Chief Doyin Okupe, an ex-presidential spokesman who died earlier today.
Obi in a statement obtained by News Band, described his death as a profound loss, not only to his family and loved ones but to all his allies.
He urged members of the Obidient Movement and other groups to pray for the eternal repose of Dr. Okupe’s soul and to remember his family during these trying times.
The statement reads, “With great sadness this morning, I received the shocking news of the death of my dear elder brother, Dr. Doyin Okupe. On behalf of the family and the Obidient family, I sincerely mourn his passing.
“Dr. Okupe was an active figure in the nation’s political space and a man who desired a better Nigeria.
“His death is a profound loss – not only to his family and loved ones but to all of us.
“I would therefore like to urge members of the Obidient Movement and other groups to pray for the eternal repose of Dr. Okupe’s soul and to remember his family during these trying times.
“May God Almighty, who called him home, grant him eternal rest and grant his family, and all of us, the fortitude to bear this sad and irreplaceable loss.
“May God Almighty bless his family always.”
This medium reported that Doyin Okupe, a respected Nigerian physician, politician, and former presidential adviser died at the age of 72.
Family sources revealed that Dr. Okupe had been seriously sick in the weeks before his death with his health rapidly declining and causing distress among his loved ones and supporters.
He died after a prolonged battle with cancer.
In October 2023, it was reported that Okupe was receiving treatment for prostate cancer in Israel.
Despite efforts to manage his condition, his health did not improve as hoped.
Okupe was initially diagnosed with prostate cancer 16 years ago and later developed sarcoma in his right shoulder.
