Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has publicly reaffirmed his commitment to the party amidst growing internal tensions and speculations about possible defection.

In a recent interview with SYMFONI News, aired on Friday, Obi declared that he remains a “faithful member” of the Labour Party.

The statement comes amid renewed debates among supporters and critics over the direction of the party, particularly following rising internal discord and public criticisms of the leadership.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that Obi used the interview to address several key concerns raised by members of the Obidient movement, many of whom have expressed frustration over perceived leadership failures and party infighting.

He urged party loyalists to remain focused on the vision of building a new Nigeria, reminding them that real change requires both commitment and discipline.

Obi specifically warned against the use of blackmail within the party, describing it as a dangerous trend that could destabilize the structure.

He noted that attempts to use underhanded tactics to manipulate or intimidate leaders only serve to weaken the party’s foundations.

According to him, integrity, transparency, and internal unity are essential if the Labour Party is to remain a credible alternative to the traditional political class.

He stressed the need for internal reform within the party’s ranks, advocating for clearer structures, stronger democratic processes, and a redefinition of leadership accountability.

Obi emphasized that the Labour Party must be different from others by leading with character, discipline, and a policy-driven focus.

Addressing economic concerns, he reiterated his vision of a Nigeria built on competent leadership and inclusive development.

He maintained that Labour’s message must remain rooted in pro-people policies, job creation, and sustainable growth.

The interview, which has since sparked conversations across social media platforms, is seen by many as Obi’s attempt to steady the ship and prepare the party for the road ahead.

Political observers suggest that his public stance may help calm internal tensions while reaffirming his leadership role within the movement.

With the 2027 elections gradually approaching, Obi’s latest statements may shape future party strategies and inspire a renewed sense of purpose among loyal supporters.
