PHOTO: Identity of commanding officer killed by Boko Haram in Borno revealed

The identity of the Commanding Officer of the 149 Battalion of the Nigerian Army, who was brutally killed, alongside some other soldiers during Friday’s attack by suspected members of Boko Haram terrorist group, has been revealed.

The Commanding Officer, Lt. Colonel TE Alari, was killed in Damboa, Borno State, while leading his troops during an operation in the area.

Mr. Zagazola Makama, a security expert revealed the identity of the soldier in a post on his official X handle.

News Band reported that 20 personnel of the Nigerian army was killed with many reportedly missing, following a brutal raid by members of Boko Haram.

The criminal elements on Friday, January 24, 2025, launched the attack that lasted for several hours at the 149 Battalion in Malam-Fatori, the headquarters of Abadam Local Government Area of the State.

Malam-Fatori is a border town between Nigeria and Niger Republic.

The insurgents reportedly attacked the base with multiple gun trucks.

They burnt many buildings and military operational vehicles during the raid.

Apart from the dead bodies recovered, many other soldiers were seriously injured while a yet-to-be ascertained number of operatives were still missing as of Saturday.

The commanding officer of the battalion, Lt. Colonel TE Alari, two senior officers including the base medical director were among those killed.

Meanwhile, military authorities in Nigeria are yet to issue a statement in respect to the development.
