A community in Rivers State has initiated some young virgins into womanhood during the famous Iria ceremony in Ogu Town in Ogu-Bolo local government area of Rivers State.
The ceremony was held on Saturday, December 2, 2023.
The Iria festival, which is been celebrated mainly in December and January, is a source of both entertainment and cultural significance.
Families in Okrika utilize the occasion as a yearly competition, presenting their virgin daughters to showcase chastity.
Before the occasion, these young women are prepared for the fattening room, where they receive nourishing meals, including a mix of pounded yam, pounded plantain and fresh fish.
