Onyeka Onwenu goes home quietly

The later Nigeria’s renowned singer, rights activist and journalist, Onyeka Onwenu, has, on Friday, August 30, 2024, been buried following a low-key funeral.

Onwenu was buried at the Ikoyi cemetery after a solemn funeral service at the Fountain of Life Church, Ilupeju, Lagos on Friday.

Aged 72, Onwenu, died on July 30 after she took ill at a friend’s birthday ceremony in Lagos.

The funeral service was attended by family, friends, and colleagues.

Abia State governor, Dr. Alex Otti and former Anambra State governor, Mr. Peter Obi, were among the dignitaries.

Her wish for a low-key funeral did not stop the outpouring of love and eulogies for Onwenu, affectionately called “Elegant Stallion”.

She touched many lives in her advocacy for social justice and contributions to Nigeria’s entertainment industry.

The later Elegant Stallion is survived by two sons.
