PHOTOS: Security forces rescue kidnapped Gusau University students

A combined team of security forces have rescued some of the kidnapped students of Federal University of Gusau in Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State.

According to a reliable source, the rescue operation involved both ground troops and air components.

The Troops of Operation Hadarin Daji rescued the students who were kidnapped in the early hours of Friday, September 22, around Sabon Gida.

Reports, meanwhile, show that several of the bandits were neutralised during the rescue operation which at the moment of this report is Still ongoing in an attempt to rescue the remaining unspecified students.

A source confirmed that the fleeing bandits suffered heavy causalities, adding: “The Quick Rescue Operation is commendable.”

Another, however, disclosed that while a few were rescued, the first group had left with the students while a second group engaged the army in a gun duel.

He noted that the bandits were engaged with troops of the Nigerian Army in a fierce gun battle, but that it did not stop the bandits from escaping with the kidnapped victims.

No official statement had, so far, been heard from the school authorities to ascertain accurate number of kidnapped students since some of the FUG students were rescued.
