Police arrest couple during naming ceremony of stolen baby
Police authorities in Lagos State have arrested a couple, Mr and Mrs James Uwam, while naming a two-month-old baby they bought from suspected traffickers.
The arrest was disclosed by the spokesman of the command in Lagos, Benjamin Hundeyin.
He said the couple had paid N2,350,000 for the baby from suspected child trafficker Loretta Nelson.
The trafficker, Nelson had in turn purchased the baby from a man professing to be a pastor, Peter Udoh, for the sum of N1,450,000.
According to the information released by Hundeyin, Udoh had, in turn, purchased the baby for N500,000 from another suspected child trafficker, Gloria Sunday.
Gloria Sunday allegedly stole the baby on July 11, 2024 in Lagos. The matter was reported to the police by the baby’s mother.
Investigation led to the arrest of Sunday, who took the police to the person she sold the baby to and from there the other suspects were smoked out.
Pastor Udoh was traced to Ikenne Town, Ogun State from where the detectives learnt that the baby had been sold for N1,450,000 to Loretta Nelson.
Nelson was traced to FESTAC and arrested. Nelson took them to Mr. and Mrs. James Uwam, and they were arrested while naming the child.
