Lagos, Nigeria – In a shocking case of child trafficking, the Lagos State Police Command has arrested five suspects, including the guardian of a teenage mother, for allegedly selling a two-week-old baby boy.

Following a thorough investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), officers uncovered the illegal transaction.

The case began on May 5, 2025, when a concerned relative reported the incident at the Ajah Police Division. According to the complainant, his 16-year-old cousin, Miss Happiness, became pregnant by an unidentified man. Due to financial struggles, the family entrusted her to Nonye Osi, who promised to provide care until delivery.

However, investigators discovered that Osi conspired with others to move Miss Happiness to a hidden location. When authorities later found the teenager, she was no longer pregnant, and her baby was missing. The case was immediately escalated to the SCID for further action.

After intensive detective work, police uncovered a disturbing scheme to sell the newborn for Three Million Naira (N3,000,000.00). The arrested suspects include Nonye Osi, Akintan Adedayo, Jimoh Bashiru, Elizabeth Bishop, and Bukola Oladapo. Each played a role in the illegal transaction.

Fortunately, officers traced the baby to Agemuwo in Badagry and safely recovered him. The child, now under the care of the Gender/Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, is in good health. Authorities are working to reunite him with his biological mother while ensuring his safety.

The Lagos State Police Command has vowed to pursue justice and protect residents from such crimes. Investigations continue to ensure all involved face legal consequences. The Commissioner of Police has also urged the public to report suspicious activities related to child trafficking.

Ultimately, this incident underscores the dangers of child trafficking and the importance of vigilance. By working together, citizens and authorities can safeguard society’s most defenseless members. The police remain committed to eradicating such crimes and ensuring justice prevails.
