AWKA, Nigeria — The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspected kidnappers believed to be connected to a series of abduction cases across the state, including an incident in which a ransom of ₦15 million was allegedly demanded from the family of a victim.
The Command said the arrests were made during a coordinated intelligence-led operation carried out by its operatives as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks responsible for kidnapping and other violent crimes in the state. Police authorities noted that the suspects had been under surveillance before they were apprehended.
According to the police, preliminary investigations suggest that the two suspects were members of a gang involved in several kidnapping operations targeting residents and travellers in different parts of Anambra. Investigators believe the group was responsible for planning and executing abductions before demanding large sums of money from victims’ families in exchange for their release.
The police disclosed that one of the cases under investigation involved the alleged demand for a ₦15 million ransom after a victim was abducted.
