Police arrests man for abduction and gang raping a minor in rivers state

Police in Rivers State on Friday, April 4, 2025, arrested 23-year-old Emmanuel Godwin, for allegedly abducting and gang-raping a 14-year-old girl.

SP Grace Iringe-Koko, spokesperson for Rivers Police Command, confirmed Godwin’s arrest to journalists in Port Harcourt.

She announced on Friday, that Godwin is being held in police custody for investigation.

According to Premium News, the minor was abducted by Godwin and three accomplices who remain at large.

The girl endured daily rape for over a week before being rescued by police, the report states.

Godwin was apprehended by officers patrolling the Casablanca area in GRA, Port Harcourt, Iringe-Koko explained.

C4I Strike Force operatives caught Godwin while he was with the minor in GRA Phase 2, she added.

The suspect confessed to abducting the girl and detaining her in a room, the spokesperson revealed.

He admitted that three others had joined him in committing unlawful acts against the minor.

A full-scale investigation has been launched by the command to capture the fleeing accomplices, Iringe-Koko said.

Officers are pursuing the suspects to ensure they face prosecution, she assured the public.

The police command remains committed to protecting residents and tackling crime, Iringe-Koko emphasized.

She urged citizens to be cautious about their associates to prevent such incidents from occurring.

Godwin’s arrest followed a routine patrol in key areas of Port Harcourt, the spokesperson noted.

The 14-year-old was rescued after suffering trauma; her identity is protected by police.

Efforts to clamp down on criminal activities are being intensified by the command, Iringe-Koko stressed.

Residents are encouraged by police to report suspicious activities to support crime-fighting efforts, she appealed.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to uncover all details of the horrific case.
