The Nigeria Police Force has declared an Imo-based lawyer, Barrister Emmanuel Chinyere Orji, wanted over alleged fraud and forgery.
The declaration came through a Special Police Gazette Bulletin released on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.
The bulletin, shared on the official X (formerly Twitter) account of the Nigeria Police, listed multiple charges against the lawyer.
According to the statement, Orji faces allegations of obtaining money under false pretence, conversion of funds, and forgery.
The Office of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID), Abuja, issued the directive.
Orji, 51, hails from Umueze Autonomous Community in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State.
Police described him as fair in complexion, with black hair, brown eyes, and a height of about 5 feet 7 inches.
His last known business address is Unique Trees Law Firm, 7 Yar’Adua Drive, Owerri, Imo State.
The police have appealed to the public for information that could lead to his arrest.
Citizens are urged to report sightings to the nearest police station or directly to the Commissioner of Police, Special Inquiry Bureau (SIB), FCID Headquarters, Abuja.
“If seen, arrest and hand over to the nearest police station,” the police bulletin read.
The case has sparked concern among lawyers and residents in Imo.
Many are questioning how a legal practitioner, sworn to uphold justice, could face such grave accusations. Others fear it could further damage public trust in the legal system.
Legal analysts argue that the declaration reflects rising worries over fraud-related crimes in Nigeria.
Fraud cases, often involving forged documents and financial deceit, continue to burden the justice system and erode confidence in professionals.
Community members in Orlu have expressed shock over the development.
Some residents say the allegations have stained the image of the community. Others insist that the matter should go through fair trial in court.
Security experts note that declaring Orji wanted is a crucial step. They believe such public notices not only mobilize citizens but also pressure suspects to surrender.
The police, however, have not disclosed details of victims linked to the case.
The FCID assured that updates would be provided as investigations continue.
The declaration marks another chapter in Nigeria’s ongoing battle against financial crimes.
As Orji remains at large, public cooperation may prove critical in bringing him to justice.
