Police Foil Bandit Attack in Sokoto, Recover 43 Rustled Sheep

SOKOTO, Nigeria — The Sokoto State Police Command has foiled a bandit attack in Binji Local Government Area of the state and successfully recovered 43 sheep that had been rustled during the incident.

The command said its operatives responded swiftly after receiving credible intelligence that armed bandits had attacked a community in Binji LGA and made away with livestock belonging to local residents.

According to the police, officers immediately launched a coordinated operation, leading to a pursuit of the fleeing suspects. The pressure mounted by the security operatives reportedly forced the bandits to abandon all 43 stolen sheep and flee into nearby bushes to avoid arrest.

The recovered animals were secured by the police, while efforts are ongoing to identify and return them to their rightful owners after the necessary verification process.

The Sokoto State Police Command said no casualties were recorded during the operation, describing the successful recovery as a reflection of the effectiveness of its intelligence-driven policing strategy and rapid response to security threats.

Commissioner of Police for Sokoto State commended the officers involved in the operation for their professionalism and dedication, noting that the command remains committed to protecting lives and property across the state.

He assured residents that security operations would continue across vulnerable communities to prevent banditry, cattle rustling, kidnapping and other criminal activities.

The police also urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could assist in preventing attacks and tracking criminal elements.

Residents of the affected community welcomed the intervention, expressing relief over the recovery of the livestock, which they described as a vital source of livelihood for many families.
