A police inspector identified as Maxwell Zabu has committed suicide in Port-Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State.
This medium gathered that Mr. Zabu fatally shot himself in his room located within the Eagle Island residence of Hon. Victor Ihunwo, a former Chairman of the Port Harcourt Local Government Area.
The unfortunate incident occurred in the wee hours of Tuesday, April 22, 2025.
Sources revealed that the matter was immediately reported to the police post at Eagle Island under the Azikiwe Police Division.
Officers from the division were said to have visited the scene to commence preliminary investigations.
Inspector Zabu was serving as an orderly and personal aide to Hon. Ihunwo until his death.
The Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, who confirmed the incident noted that it appears to be a case of suicide, although the exact circumstances remain unclear.
To ensure a thorough probe, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) in Port Harcourt for in-depth investigation.
