The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested five suspected bandits during an operation by officers of the 36 Police Mobile Force (PMF) Squadron in Birnin Kebbi.
The arrests occurred around 1 a.m. on Sunday along the Zuru–Tadurga axis as part of the Restore Peace deployment.
A cache of weapons, ammunition, and ₦2.6 million in cash was recovered from the suspects.
According to Police spokesman Nafiu Abubakar, the suspects — identified as Bako Aliyu (Nanarki), Sani Alaramma (Wawan Icce), Umaru Tafsi (Birnin Tudu), Mamman Sani Danzakara (Mallamawa), and Lawali Sani (Birnin Tudu) — are residents of Bukkuyum and Gummi LGAs in Zamfara State.
They are suspected to be linked to recent attacks in Zuru Emirate. Items seized during the operation include seven fabricated AK-47 rifles, one locally-made pistol, three dane guns, three AK-47 magazines, 43 rounds of 7.62×39mm ammunition, 46 live cartridges, two empty shells, and ₦2,623,900 in cash.
The suspects were intercepted after a tip-off, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation to uncover their network and other accomplices.
Commissioner of Police Bello M. Sani praised the officers for their professionalism and urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
