Police Probe Shooting of Osun APC Member Allegedly Targeted for Wearing Campaign Cap

OSOGBO, Osun State — The Osun State Police Command has launched an investigation into the shooting of an All Progressives Congress (APC) member in Osogbo, who was allegedly targeted for wearing a campaign cap bearing the party’s insignia.

The victim, whose identity has not been publicly disclosed, was reportedly shot by unknown assailants in what is believed to be a politically motivated attack, according to a police source who spoke on condition of anonymity. The incident occurred on Thursday in the Osogbo area, sparking fears of escalating political violence in the state ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

According to preliminary reports, the victim was attacked while going about his daily activities. The assailants reportedly fled the scene after the attack, leaving the victim with gunshot wounds. He is currently receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the incident and assured that a thorough investigation is underway to apprehend the perpetrators. The command has called on members of the public to provide any information that could assist in the investigation and to refrain from spreading unverified information that could inflame tensions.
