UMUAHIA, Nigeria — The Abia State Police Command has conducted a series of raids on criminal hideouts, arresting 31 suspects for illegal drug possession and other offences as part of ongoing operations aimed at flushing out criminal elements from the state.
The raids, carried out by operatives of the command, targeted identified black spots and hideouts used by suspected criminals across various locations in the state. During the operations, police recovered quantities of illicit substances, including cannabis and other hard drugs, as well as weapons and stolen items.
The Abia State Police Command confirmed the arrests in a statement, describing the operation as a significant success in the fight against crime in the state. The command reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents and warned that the police would not relent in its efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.
The arrested suspects are currently in police custody and are being interrogated as investigations continue. The police have assured that all suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The operations come amid heightened security measures in Abia State, where the police have intensified patrols and surveillance to curb criminal activities. The command has also urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
