Police smash armed robbery gang in Anambra, recovers 2 pistols, stolen tricycle

Police at Neni in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State have intercepted an armed robbery gang that snatched a tricycle from the owner in Agu-Awka on Saturday night.

In a statement by the police spokesman in Anambra, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, said the gang was smashed following information received from the police in Awka that they were fleeing towards Anaocha Local Government Area after their operation.

Ikenga said the police who were on patrol with local vigilante laid an ambush for the robbers and got them apprehended. One Baretta pistol, one locally made chief revolver pistol, 12 rounds of life, and one expended ammunition were recovered from the three-man gang. The tricycle has also been recovered.

The suspects arrested are Ebuka Madu ‘M’ age 22years of Umunze, Chinedu Godwin ‘M’ age 23years from Enugu State, and Udegbunam Chikezie ‘M’ 18years of Neni.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye has assured members of the Public and the people of Anambra that the confidence reposed in the Command for the maintenance of law and order and pursuit of justice shall not be taken for granted.

He has directed that the suspects be arraigned in court after a diligent investigation.
