Information obtained from credible sources say that there is pressure on the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal to rule in favour of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu based on technicalities.

The pressure is coming as the Election Petition Tribunal prepares to deliver it’s final judgement on the petition filed by the presidential candidate of the Labour Party–LP, Mr Peter Obi and his PDP counterpart, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar challenging the victory of President Bola Tinubu in the last election.

Though, the political scheming NewsBand Newspaper earlier reported, started with the British owned Economist Intelligence Unit—EIU—an appendage of The Economist Newspaper, which projected that the victory of President Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress—APC will not be overturned by the court.

International community sources mostly Western countries are telling NewsBand that the election petition may be dismissed based on technicalities, thus indicating that the evidence of Independent National Electoral Commission—INEC malfeasance, Tinubu’s forgeries and constitutional requirement of 25% in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory will not matter to the court.

Legal sources however, say this is double standards and self-serving narrative.

Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission—INEC had declared Tinubu as the winner of the last presidential election.

Tinubu defeated 17 other candidates who took part in the election. He scored a total of 8,794,726 votes to emerge victorious.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, who announced the final results, said the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party—PDP, Atiku Abubakar came second with a total of 6,984,520 votes in the election.

Obi came third in the election with a total of 6,101,533 votes while Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria’s People Party (NNPP) came fourth with 1,496,687 votes.

The Economist Newspaper making a case for Tinubu on why he would not be booted out of office by the court said, “Bola Tinubu, the candidate of the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress, won the February presidential election with only 36.6 per cent of the vote. The result is being contested in court, but EIU does not expect it to be overturned”.
