(DDM) – Senate President Godswill Akpabio has denied making a controversial statement credited to him by an online platform, Rant HQ, which claimed he said Nigerians were satisfied with the country’s conditions despite ongoing killings.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the Senate President, through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, described the viral publication as “a total falsehood, a product of mischief, and a desperate attempt to incite misunderstanding.”
Akpabio said the statement was designed to create friction between him and United States President Donald Trump, as well as to cause diplomatic unease between Nigeria and its international partners.
He challenged the publishers to provide credible evidence to back up their claims, stressing that the platform’s actions amounted to “digital recklessness” and an attempt to mislead the public.
According to Eyiboh, the false report was a calculated effort to exploit ongoing global controversies surrounding Nigeria’s human rights and security issues for online engagement and sensationalism.
Akpabio condemned the deliberate spread of misinformation and urged Nigerians to disregard such fabricated stories aimed at causing confusion and distrust in governance.
He further warned individuals and media outlets involved in fake news dissemination to desist from using falsehood as a tool to stir political tension or damage diplomatic relationships.
The Senate President reaffirmed his commitment to truth, responsible communication, and maintaining Nigeria’s integrity in its relations with other nations.
Political observers told DDM that the incident reflects a growing trend of online misinformation targeting prominent political figures amid rising tensions between Western nations and African leaders.
Akpabio’s office reiterated that the National Assembly remains focused on legislation and policies that promote peace, development, and accountability, not on trading words with unverified online sources.
The statement concluded with a strong caution to Nigerians to verify any politically sensitive report before sharing, especially at a time when fake news could inflame domestic and international sentiments.
