President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed into law a bill establishing the Federal University of Environmental Tech, Ogoni, in Rivers State.

This initiative expands Nigeria’s network of federal tertiary institutions, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to technological advancements and sustainable environmental solutions.

The President’s Special Adviser on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, announced the development via his verified X handle on Monday, describing it as a demonstration of Tinubu’s dedication to addressing historical injustices and ensuring inclusive national growth.

According to Diaspora digital media (DDM) he emphasized that the Renewed Hope agenda prioritizes equity and the creation of institutions that foster regional development.

While signing the bill, Tinubu acknowledged that Ogoni has long played a vital role in Nigeria’s development and activism, especially concerning environmental issues.

He highlighted the region’s struggles with environmental degradation, emphasizing that the university represents more than just another educational institution—it is a reaffirmation of the government’s commitment to Ogoni, the Niger Delta, and the entire country.

The President stated, “For decades, the Ogoni people have led efforts in advocating for environmental restoration and sustainable development, shaping national and global discussions on these crucial matters.

By signing this bill into law, we are taking a decisive step towards addressing past grievances and creating new opportunities for learning, technological innovation, and prosperity.”

According to Tinubu, the Federal University of Environmental Tech will serve as a center of excellence, equipping young Nigerians with the skills and knowledge needed to tackle environmental challenges, develop clean energy solutions, and contribute to Nigeria’s sustainable economic growth.

He commended the National Assembly for successfully passing the bill and praised the Ogoni delegation for their commitment to peaceful advocacy.

He emphasized, “Together, we will ensure that this institution not only fulfills its mandate but also becomes a catalyst for transformative development across Nigeria.”

The establishment of the Environmental Tech University aligns with the administration’s broader agenda to strengthen Nigeria’s educational and technological landscape.

The institution is expected to focus on cutting-edge research in environmental science, climate change mitigation, and the integration of technology in sustainable development efforts.

The institution is expected to provide innovative solutions to pressing environmental challenges while promoting research and development in green technology.

By creating a university with a strong technological foundation, the administration aims to foster a new generation of professionals who can drive Nigeria’s transition towards a more sustainable future.

The Federal University of Environmental Tech, Ogoni, is envisioned as a hub for groundbreaking research in environmental conservation, pollution control, and renewable energy.

As the government continues to prioritize education and technology, Tinubu’s commitment to establishing institutions like the Environmental Tech University underscores his administration’s long-term vision for national development.

The university is expected to play a critical role in shaping policies and strategies that will enhance Nigeria’s environmental sustainability efforts.
