Protesters storm NASS, kick against plot to suspend Marafa

Hundreds of Protesters stormed the National Assembly entrance expressing dissatisfaction with planned suspension of Senator Kabiru Marafa over allegation disparaging the Senate in a newspaper interview.

The group also asked the Senate President Bukola Saraki to resign and face his trial at Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) over alleged false asset declaration. 

 Senator Marafa, who is spokesman of “Unity Forum Senators”, had been accusing the leadership of Senate of forging Senate rules to pave way for emergence of Saraki and Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu.

The matter of forgery is still currently in Federal High Court.

However, the group tagged open Society Coalition displayed various inscription on banner  like, such as: Suspend Saraki, not Marafa; Stop suspending members, leave the Senate and face CCT; Democracy survives in inclusiveness, not in suspending people of different opinion; National Assembly, centre of Democracy not Fascist centre.

The report that will determine Marafa fate is expected to be laid by Chairman Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, Senator Sam Anyawu.
