On Thursday, the Police Service Commission (PSC) officially approved the appointment of Miller Gajere Dantawaye as the new Commissioner of Police for Kogi State Command.
This decision aligns with the Commission’s commitment to enhancing law enforcement leadership in the region.
Additionally, the PSC appointed Betty Enekpen Otimenyin as the substantive Commissioner of Police for Edo State.
Both appointments come as the current Commissioners prepare for retirement, ensuring a smooth transition in leadership.
According to PSC spokesperson Ikechukwu Ani, the retiring Commissioners are CP Chukwuka Bertrand Onuoha of Kogi, who will retire on January 22, 2025, and CP Peter Umoru of Edo, set to retire on January 25, 2025.
This timely change aims to maintain effective police operations in both states.
Newly appointed CP Dantawaye previously held significant positions, including Assistant Commissioner of Operations at the FCT Police Command and Area Commander in various states.
His extensive experience equips him well to tackle the challenges ahead in Kogi State.
Similarly, CP Betty Enekpen Otimenyin has a rich background, having begun her career in Bauchi State Command. She has served in multiple roles across different divisions, showcasing her versatility and commitment to police work in Nigeria.
DIG Hashimu Argungu, Chairman of the Commission, urged the new Commissioners to demonstrate dedication and commitment to their duties.
He emphasized the importance of swiftly adapting to their roles to enhance security in Kogi and Edo States.
Furthermore, DIG Argungu assured that the Commission would closely monitor their performance, encouraging them to strive for excellence in their service.
This oversight aims to ensure that the public receives the best possible policing.
Finally, Ani confirmed that the appointments have been formally communicated to the Inspector General of Police for implementation.
This step marks a significant move towards strengthening law enforcement in both states.
