PSG overwhelms Stade Brestois with 5-2 victory ahead of UCL clash
Brest, France – In a stunning display of offensive prowess, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) overwhelmed Stade Brestois 5-2 on Saturday.
Notably, Ousmane Dembélé netted a hat-trick for the second time in just four days.
This match served as a prelude to their upcoming Champions League encounter.
Additionally, it showcased PSG’s formidable form as they continue their unbeaten run in Ligue 1.
Dembélé, who had already made headlines with a three-goal performance on Wednesday, opened the scoring for PSG shortly before the half-hour mark.
His initial goal came after an incisive through ball from Bradley Barcola, effectively setting the tone for a dominant first half.
Brest briefly leveled the match five minutes into the second half.
Romain Del Castillo struck a beautifully placed shot from the edge of the box, momentarily shifting the momentum back to the hosts.
However, the parity was short-lived.
Dembélé quickly restored PSG’s lead, capitalizing on a loose ball in the box after Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was denied a penalty.
He completed his hat-trick shortly thereafter, finishing off a precise pass from Lee Kang-in.
Ludovic Ajorque gave Brest a flicker of hope with a strong strike, narrowing the score to 3-2.
Yet, PSG’s Gonçalo Ramos, who came in as a substitute, quickly sealed the deal with two late goals.
Ramos found the net first in the 89th minute, following a quick counterattack.
Then, he scored again during injury time, boosting his season total to eight goals.
With this win, PSG firmly holds the top spot in the Ligue 1 standings, now leading Marseille by 13 points.
Marseille will try to close that gap when they host Lyon on Sunday.
Under Luis Enrique’s management, PSG is well on its way to clinching their 11th league title in just 13 seasons.
Dembélé, having scored 14 goals in his last nine matches across all competitions, shared his satisfaction with his current performance.
“I feel really good in the number nine role. I owe it to myself to keep scoring goals,” he told beIN Sports after the match.
“Winning today was crucial to maintain our momentum, and we’ll see what unfolds in the Champions League.”
The upcoming Champions League matches will feature PSG facing Brest again in the first leg on February 11 at Guingamp.
This is due to Brest’s Stade Francis-Le Blé not meeting UEFA hosting requirements.
After this recent loss, Brest finds itself in eighth place in Ligue 1, trailing four points behind the European qualification spots for next season.
As the Ligue 1 season unfolds, PSG’s dominance continues to challenge their domestic rivals.
Meanwhile, Brest needs to bounce back quickly to avoid further setbacks.
In the next round of fixtures, Monaco will take on Auxerre while Lille hosts Saint-Étienne, as the competition for European qualification intensifies.
