The violence extended to law enforcement when rioters in northwest France launched fireworks at police, leaving one officer with severe eye injuries.

Doctors placed the wounded officer in an artificial coma as colleagues condemned the attack.

Nationwide, hospitals treated 192 injured persons, including 22 police officers and seven firefighters caught in the turmoil.

Despite deploying 5,400 officers across Paris, authorities struggled to control crowds near the Champs-Élysées and Parc des Princes.

Riot police eventually deployed water cannons and tear gas after revelers pelted them with projectiles.

By morning, officials had made 559 arrests, with 491 occurring in the capital alone. Vandals damaged 264 vehicles and multiple buildings during the night.

A separate incident in Grenoble saw a car crash into celebrating fans, seriously injuring four family members.

The driver surrendered to police, who confirmed the collision appeared accidental.

As dawn broke, smoke still rose from burned-out cars while cleanup crews worked to repair shattered bus shelters across affected cities.

Government officials have not yet commented on the violence but face mounting pressure to improve security for future events.
