The Emir of Daura, Alhaji Faruk Umar, has sacked a traditional ruler in Baure Local Government Area, Katsina State.

The village head of Mantau, Iliya Mantu, was removed over his alleged role in a kidnap and rape case.

Mantu was linked to the abduction of a nursing mother, identified as Zulaihatu, from Yarmaulu community in Baure.

Zulaihatu was kidnapped last year alongside her baby by unidentified men, sparking outrage in the community.

She was held hostage for days and allegedly raped multiple times by her abductors before she regained freedom.

Family members reportedly paid N20 million as ransom to secure her release from the hands of the criminals.

After her release, the woman’s relatives took legal steps to unravel the faces behind the horrifying incident.

During investigations, the deposed village head, Mantu, was allegedly exposed as a key figure in the incident.

This revelation led to mass protests last week by angry youths in the Yarmaulu community, demanding justice.

They also called for the immediate removal of the village head over his alleged involvement in the crime.

Responding to the rising tension, the Emir of Daura announced the immediate dismissal of the embattled village head.

He made the announcement at the palace on Monday evening, describing the act as shameful and unacceptable.

The Emir stated that the Daura Emirate will never tolerate abuse of its citizens by any traditional leader.

He reminded the people that a former Emir once jailed his own son to show fairness and discipline.

“This emirate had once removed a leader it appointed. Even Sarki Abdurrahman jailed his son for wrongdoing,” he said.

The Emir assured the public that justice will be served, regardless of the offender’s influence or title.

He urged citizens to always report injustice to the Emirate Council through appropriate legal and traditional channels.

“If my own child is guilty, come forward. Present your complaint, this emirate belongs to the people,” he added.

The Emir promised that a new village head will be installed soon to fill the vacant traditional seat.

He charged the incoming leader to serve with fairness, honour, and integrity for the betterment of the people.

Alhaji Faruk also advised residents to avoid spreading unverified stories and always respect the rule of law.

He concluded that justice must prevail and tradition must never be used to shield wrongdoing in the society.
