The Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH), under the leadership of Prof. Chizindu Alikor, has announced a partnership with the KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation to offer free tuberculosis (TB) treatment to the public.
The initiative, currently available at the hospital, is aimed at improving access to care and reducing the spread of the infectious disease across Rivers State.
Speaking during an interview on Rhythm 93.7 FM in Port Harcourt, the hospital’s Resident Doctor in charge of Community Health, Dr. Godwin Iche, urged residents to utilise the free services by visiting RSUTH for screening and treatment.
He emphasised that tuberculosis, though serious, is both preventable and curable when detected early and properly managed.
Expanding access to essential care
According to Dr. Iche, the collaboration reflects RSUTH’s commitment to strengthening public health outcomes and tackling TB through early diagnosis and comprehensive treatment.
He advised individuals experiencing symptoms such as persistent cough, chest pain, night sweats, unexplained weight loss, or prolonged fatigue to seek immediate medical attention.
Commitment to public health
The hospital’s management reiterated its dedication to delivering accessible, specialised, and patient-centred healthcare services. The free programme includes testing, counselling, and full treatment at no cost to patients.
Residents across Rivers State and surrounding communities are encouraged to take advantage of the initiative as part of broader efforts to control tuberculosis and improve community health outcomes.
